What’s a Perry, you ask? A perry is an alcoholic beverage made form 100% pear juice. Unlike a Cider, which uses apple juice as a base, perry starts with pear juice and yeast for fermentation. Perry’s are found in Europe, France and even here in the US of A – However what makes a Perry different than a cider, for one the fruit juice used as the base. Cider uses apples, Perry uses pears. It’s often mistaken for a perry cider, which is not a perry. It is an apple cider base that pear juice was added to. Another differentiator, Perry trees take a much longer time to mature than apple and pear trees not only bear less fruit than apples they extract less juice than an apple – this make Perry less common than it’s apple counterpart. Like an apple, pears flavors vary from sweet to spicy, tart to dry and everywhere in between. We hope you stop in for a glass to feel for yourself.
Our Perky Perry used a blend of native, culinary pear juice which we added yeast (those details are proprietary!) to start fermentation. The culinary pear blend lends a slightly sweet and tangy, refreshingly bright flavor with subtle notes of butter and honey.
